Xiaomi tried something different with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series last year by putting a small display on the back of the phone. Instead of dropping the idea after one generation, the company now wants to take it further with its next flagship phones.
Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will launch in China later this month. The company also gave us the first official look at the back of the phone, where we can see a large secondary display sitting next to the Leica cameras. This time, Xiaomi could also use the rear screen for some new AI features.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Is Coming This Month
Xiaomi hasn’t shared the exact launch date yet, but the company says the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will arrive in China this month. With the official teasers now starting to appear, we probably won’t have to wait too long before Xiaomi shares the complete launch details.
For now, Xiaomi has only talked about the China launch. The company hasn’t said anything about India or other global markets yet. Xiaomi also kept the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max away from India, so Indian buyers shouldn’t assume that the new Pro models will come here this time.
The Rear Screen Is Coming Back
The secondary screen is clearly one of the biggest highlights of the new phones. Xiaomi’s teaser shows the display covering a large part of the rear camera area, which gives the Xiaomi 18 Pro a look similar to the previous generation.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro series already used its rear screen for things like main-camera selfies, wallpapers and useful information. Xiaomi now seems ready to expand the idea instead of using the display only as a design feature. That could make the second screen much more useful in everyday use.

Xiaomi Could Add AI Features to the Rear Display
One small detail in Xiaomi’s teaser makes the new rear screen more interesting. The display shows the word “Generating,” which could point towards some kind of AI-generated content or AI-powered feature directly on the second screen.
Xiaomi hasn’t explained what “Generating” actually means, so it is better not to guess too much right now. It could involve AI wallpapers, images or something completely different. The company should reveal more about the feature as it shares more teasers before the launch.
The Camera Design Still Looks Familiar
Xiaomi hasn’t completely redesigned the back of the phone. The teaser shows a wide horizontal camera section with three cameras and Leica branding, while the secondary display takes up most of the remaining space inside the same area.
Leaks suggest Xiaomi may use slightly thinner borders around the rear screen this year. Some reports also point to a different position for the front punch-hole camera and a new physical button on the frame. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed these smaller design changes yet, so we will have to wait for clearer official images.

A New Snapdragon Flagship Chip Could Power It
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the processor yet, but reports point towards Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon flagship platform. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series normally sits among the first phones to use Qualcomm’s latest high-end processor, so performance should once again play a major role.
Some leaks specifically mention the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro for the new Pro models. However, Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed the final chipset name yet. We should know more once Qualcomm announces its next flagship platform and Xiaomi starts sharing detailed specifications.
What About the Cameras?
The official teaser confirms a Leica-branded triple-camera setup, but Xiaomi hasn’t shared the camera specifications yet. Earlier leaks have pointed towards major camera upgrades for the Xiaomi 18 Pro, including much higher-resolution sensors.
Some reports have even mentioned two 200MP cameras for the Pro model, with one serving as the main camera and the other handling telephoto shots. That would be a huge upgrade on paper, but these details still come from leaks. It makes more sense to wait for Xiaomi’s official announcement before treating those camera numbers as final.
Xiaomi Is Clearly Not Giving Up on the Rear Screen
Secondary screens on smartphones are still quite rare, but Xiaomi seems serious about making the idea work. The company brought the feature back with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series, and now the Xiaomi 18 Pro series looks ready to improve it with more functions rather than simply copying last year’s setup.
We still need to know exactly what the new screen can do, and the “Generating” teaser has made that part more interesting. Xiaomi should share more details over the next few days, while the full launch later this month will reveal the processor, cameras, battery, pricing and other specifications.
