WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that reminds users when they leave a message unfinished in a chat. The feature sends a notification for the saved draft, making it easier to return to the conversation and complete the message.
The new draft notification feature is currently available to some beta testers using WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.35.2. It works alongside the existing draft label that already helps users identify unfinished messages directly from the WhatsApp chat list.
WhatsApp Draft Message Notifications Start Rolling Out
WhatsApp is introducing notifications for draft messages with its latest Android beta update. The feature works when a user starts typing a message in a conversation but leaves the chat without sending it.
Previously, WhatsApp saved the unfinished message as a draft inside the app. With the latest update, the app can also send a push notification to remind users about the message even when they are using another application.
This makes the reminder more noticeable because users no longer need to open WhatsApp and check their chat list to find the unfinished message.
Draft Notification Appears After One Minute
The new feature does not send the notification immediately after a user leaves a conversation. Instead, WhatsApp waits for a short period before showing the reminder.
According to the report, if a user types a message, leaves the chat and switches to another application, WhatsApp schedules a notification that appears after around one minute.
This short delay can help avoid unnecessary notifications when users only leave the conversation temporarily and plan to return immediately.

Notification Shows the Contact Name
WhatsApp has kept the draft notification simple so users can quickly understand which conversation contains the unfinished message.
The notification appears with the title “Your draft” and also displays the name of the contact associated with the draft. This allows users to identify the conversation without first opening WhatsApp.
As a result, users who have several active conversations can easily see where they left an unfinished message.
Tapping the Notification Opens the Chat
The draft notification is not limited to reminding users about the unfinished message. It also provides a quick way to return to the conversation.
When users tap the notification, WhatsApp opens the specific chat where the draft was saved. They can then continue typing the message, make any changes and send it normally.
This removes the need to open WhatsApp separately and search through the chat list to find the conversation again.
Existing Draft Label Will Continue to Work
WhatsApp already provides a draft label for unfinished messages. When users type something in a conversation and leave without sending it, a draft label can appear beside that conversation in the main chat list.
The label also provides a preview of the unfinished message. However, users need to open WhatsApp before they can notice it. The new notification extends this feature outside the application.
The notification does not replace the existing draft label. Instead, both features work together to make unfinished messages easier to find.
Draft Notifications Can Help Users Remember Messages
It can be easy to forget an unfinished message when users regularly move between WhatsApp and other applications. A user may start writing a reply, get interrupted by another task and then forget to return to the conversation.
The new notification provides an additional reminder in such situations. Since it appears in the Android notification panel, users can notice the unfinished message without reopening WhatsApp first.
This is a relatively small addition compared with major WhatsApp features, but it can be useful for users who regularly manage several conversations throughout the day.
WhatsApp Beta 2.26.35.2 Gets the Feature
WhatsApp discovered the draft notification feature with beta version 2.26.35.2 for Android, which is distributed through the Google Play beta program.
However, installing the compatible beta version does not guarantee immediate access. WhatsApp is currently rolling out the feature to only some beta testers, so it may not appear on every account even when the latest compatible version is installed.
WhatsApp often releases new features gradually during beta testing. This allows the company to test their performance with a smaller group before expanding availability.
Wider WhatsApp Rollout Not Confirmed Yet
WhatsApp has not announced when draft message notifications will become available to all Android users. Therefore, users running the stable version of WhatsApp may need to wait before receiving the feature.
For now, the feature remains available to selected beta testers. Users who have access can receive a reminder around one minute after leaving an unfinished message and switching to another app.
If testing continues successfully, WhatsApp could expand draft notifications to more Android accounts through future updates. However, there is currently no confirmed date for a wider rollout.
