Until now, we had mostly heard about Google’s new Googlebook laptop platform through reports and leaks. We knew Google was working on it, but there wasn’t much actual hardware to look at. That has changed now.
Images of the Lenovo Googlebook 15 have leaked online, giving us an early look at what could be one of the first laptops built for Google’s new platform. The laptop itself looks quite normal, but there are a few things in these images worth checking out.
This Could Be Our First Look at a Googlebook
The leaked images show a Lenovo laptop with a large display and a simple design. There is no unusual second screen or different form factor here. At first look, you could easily mistake it for one of Lenovo’s regular laptops.
The display appears to be around 15 inches, which also explains the larger keyboard area. Lenovo has included a full number pad on the right side of the keyboard, something you normally don’t get on smaller 13-inch and 14-inch laptops.
There is also a large trackpad below the keyboard and a webcam above the display.

The Design Is Pretty Simple
Lenovo doesn’t seem to be doing anything too different with the design. The Googlebook 15 uses a normal clamshell body with fairly slim bezels around the screen.
The leaked images also give us a look at the sides of the laptop, where you can see its ports. We will need the complete specification sheet before confirming exactly what connectivity options Lenovo is giving here.
So from the outside, this still looks like a regular Lenovo laptop. The bigger difference should be the software running inside it.
But What Is Googlebook?
If the Googlebook name sounds new, that’s because this isn’t simply another Chromebook model.
Google has been working on bringing Android and ChromeOS closer together for laptops. The company has already confirmed that it plans to move ChromeOS towards the Android technology stack, instead of keeping both platforms completely separate.
Googlebook is linked to this new laptop direction. So instead of looking at it as just another version of today’s Chromebook, it is better to wait and see what Google actually announces for the platform.
Lenovo Googlebook 15 Specifications Are Still Missing
The images tell us quite a bit about the design, but not much about the hardware inside.
We still don’t know which processor the Lenovo Googlebook 15 will use. RAM, storage, battery capacity and even the exact display specifications haven’t been revealed yet.
| Feature | Current Information |
|---|---|
| Name | Lenovo Googlebook 15 |
| Display | Around 15 inches |
| Keyboard | Full-size with number pad |
| Platform | Googlebook |
| Processor | Not known yet |
| RAM | Not known yet |
| Storage | Not known yet |
| Battery | Not known yet |
| Price | Not announced |
This is why it is too early to compare the Googlebook 15 with Windows laptops or existing Chromebooks. We don’t even know which price range Lenovo is targeting yet.
Android Apps Could Be a Big Part of It
Android apps are already available on Chromebooks, but Google has been working on bringing its phone, tablet and laptop software closer together.
If Googlebook uses more of Android underneath, Android apps could become a much bigger part of the laptop experience. We may also see better support for apps on larger screens, keyboard and mouse controls and normal desktop-style multitasking.
But these are the things we need Google to explain when Googlebook becomes official. The leaked images themselves don’t tell us how the software will work.
Is This Replacing Chromebook?
Not yet. Google hasn’t said that existing Chromebooks will suddenly stop working or that every new ChromeOS laptop will become a Googlebook.
There are already millions of Chromebooks in use, and many of them have years of software support remaining. So even if Googlebook becomes Google’s next laptop platform, any change will likely happen over time.
For now, the Lenovo leak simply gives us a look at one of the devices being prepared around the new platform.
When Is the Lenovo Googlebook 15 Launching?
There is no official launch date yet. Lenovo hasn’t announced the laptop, and Google hasn’t shared all the details about the Googlebook platform either.
That means we still need to wait for the processor, RAM, storage, battery, display details and price.
But at least we now have something more than just the Googlebook name. The leaked Lenovo Googlebook 15 images show what one of these upcoming laptops could actually look like, and the rest should become clearer once Lenovo or Google starts talking about it officially.
