The Lava Virat Curve has a 120Hz curved AMOLED screen, 6,000mAh battery and Dimensity 7100 processor, but none of these is its most unusual feature. Look at the back of the phone and you will find a tiny second screen sitting inside the camera module.
Lava calls it the Mini Display. It isn’t another full smartphone screen where you can open apps or watch videos. Instead, Lava has designed it for quick information and a little personalisation. So what can you actually do with the Lava Virat Curve rear Mini Display? Here’s what has been confirmed so far.
Check the Time Without Turning the Phone Around
One of the simplest uses is checking the time. If your phone is lying face down on a table, you won’t necessarily need to pick it up and turn on the main screen just to see the clock.
It is a small feature, but this is exactly the kind of quick information that makes sense on a tiny rear display.
See Your Battery Percentage
The Mini Display can also show the phone’s battery percentage. This could be useful while the Virat Curve is charging or sitting face down beside you.
Considering the phone itself packs a large 6,000mAh battery, being able to glance at the remaining charge without opening the main screen is a nice addition.

Check the Volume Level
Changing the volume can also bring up a volume indicator on the rear display.
This isn’t something you are likely to use all the time, but it gives the Mini Display another purpose beyond simply showing a clock or Lava logo.
See Notifications on the Back
Notifications are probably one of its more useful functions. The rear screen can show notification alerts, allowing you to know when something has arrived without immediately opening the phone.
Don’t expect it to work like a smartwatch or the main Android notification panel, though. Lava hasn’t said that you can read complete WhatsApp messages, reply to notifications or interact with apps directly from this screen.
For now, it is better to think of it as a quick notification indicator.
Add Emojis and Custom Messages
This is where the Mini Display becomes more about personalisation. Lava lets users show emojis and custom text on the small rear screen.
You could set a short message or choose an emoji simply to make the phone look a little different. The Lava logo can also appear on the display.
It doesn’t add much functionality, but it gives users something to play around with instead of leaving the rear screen limited to system information.
Can You Use It as a Camera Viewfinder?
This would have been one of the best uses of a rear screen, especially for taking selfies with the 50MP Sony main camera. But Lava has not confirmed camera viewfinder support for the Virat Curve Mini Display.
Lava has offered more interactive rear-screen functions on some of its other phones in the past, but that doesn’t mean the Virat Curve automatically gets them too.
Unless Lava adds or confirms this feature, don’t buy the phone expecting to use the Mini Display for rear-camera selfies.
Can You Control Music From It?
Music controls haven’t been confirmed either. At the moment, Lava’s announced features focus on time, battery, volume, notifications and personalisation.
The same applies to things like answering calls, controlling apps, checking weather or using widgets. We shouldn’t assume these features are available simply because the phone has a second display.
Is the Rear Mini Display Actually Useful?
It depends on what you expect from it.
If you imagine a second Android screen with apps, camera controls and lots of widgets, the Lava Virat Curve Mini Display is much simpler than that. Its main job is showing small pieces of information without making you turn on the 6.67-inch main display.
But as an extra feature, it does make the Virat Curve look different. Checking the time, battery, volume and notification alerts can be useful, while emojis and custom messages add some personalisation.
The feature would become much more useful if Lava later adds things like a camera viewfinder or music controls. For now, however, stick to the functions Lava has actually confirmed rather than expecting the tiny rear screen to behave like a second phone display.
