1.6-Litre Strong-Hybrid Petrol Engine

One of the major highlights of the Kia Sorento is its strong-hybrid powertrain. It combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor.

The petrol engine produces 180hp and 265Nm of torque, while the electric motor delivers an additional 65hp and 264Nm. The setup comes paired with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.

Buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive depending on the variant. The combination of a turbocharged petrol engine and strong-hybrid technology makes this powertrain particularly interesting in the Indian premium SUV segment.

2.2-Litre Diesel Engine With 193hp

Kia is also offering the Sorento with a 2.2-litre diesel engine for buyers who prefer a conventional diesel SUV.

The engine produces 193hp and 442Nm of torque and is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Like the strong-hybrid model, diesel versions are available with either FWD or AWD depending on the trim.

Four driving modes are available as standard: Normal, Eco, Sport and Smart. The AWD variants additionally get Snow, Sand and Mud terrain modes.

Premium Design With 19-Inch Alloy Wheels

The Kia Sorento follows the company’s latest SUV design language. At the front, it gets Kia’s signature Tiger-nose grille with a honeycomb-style pattern and chrome surround.

Vertically stacked LED headlights are paired with distinctive Y-shaped LED daytime running lights. The front bumper also gets dual LED fog lamps and a silver-finished skid plate.

The SUV rides on 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and gets roof rails, chrome window surrounds and black cladding around the lower sections of the body. At the rear, it features wraparound LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler and rear wiper and washer.

The Sorento measures 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,785mm in height with the roof rails. Its wheelbase measures 2,815mm.

Dual 12.3-Inch Displays and Premium Cabin

Inside, the Kia Sorento gets a modern dashboard with two 12.3-inch displays. One works as the digital instrument cluster, while the second handles infotainment functions.

Kia has also introduced nine interface themes based on Marvel, Pixar and Disney. The centre console gets a rotary drive selector, wireless smartphone charger and cup holders.

Buyers can choose between grey-and-black and brown-and-black dual-tone cabin themes. The front seats offer ventilation, 10-way power adjustment and adjustable lumbar support.

Other features include a 12-speaker Bose sound system, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, dual-zone climate control and powered tailgate.

Six-Seat and Seven-Seat Options

The Kia Sorento is available with both six-seat and seven-seat configurations in India.

The six-seater gets captain seats in the second row, while the seven-seater replaces them with a bench seat. This allows buyers to choose between additional passenger capacity and a more premium second-row experience.

The second-row seats can also be electronically folded. On the six-seat version, Kia additionally provides ventilation for the middle-row captain seats.

Level 2+ ADAS and 10 Airbags

Safety is another major area where the new Kia Sorento comes well equipped. The SUV offers 10 airbags along with Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance Systems on applicable variants.

Other safety features include a 360-degree camera, digital inside rear-view mirror, front and rear dashcams, tyre-pressure monitoring system and auto parking assistance.

The ADAS package adds several driver-assistance technologies designed to help during highway and city driving. However, these systems are assistance features and do not replace driver attention.

Kia Sorento Takes on Premium Three-Row SUVs

The Sorento enters India’s premium three-row SUV segment and will compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and Volkswagen Tayron. Kia is also positioning it as its flagship ICE-powered SUV in India.

Importantly, Kia is manufacturing the Sorento locally at its Anantapur facility in Andhra Pradesh, rather than bringing the SUV to India only as a fully imported model.

Prices start at ₹27.99 lakh for the diesel version and ₹29.49 lakh for the strong hybrid. The combination of hybrid and diesel powertrains, optional AWD, six- and seven-seat layouts, Level 2+ ADAS and a long feature list gives buyers several configurations to choose from in the premium SUV segment.
