OPPO has finally shown ColorOS 17, and this year’s update looks quite different. It is based on Android 17 and brings a new design across the Control Center, lock screen, system apps and other parts of the phone.
The first thing you will probably notice is the transparent look. OPPO is using more blur and glass-like effects this time, but that isn’t the only change. Animations are different too, and several menus and navigation buttons have been redesigned. In this article, we will talk about the ColorsOS 17 new design and features.
ColorOS 17 Has a New Look
Open the Control Center and the difference should be easy to notice. Instead of the usual plain background, ColorOS 17 uses more transparency and blur. Some buttons also get small glow and lighting effects.
OPPO hasn’t changed everything just for the sake of making it look new. The basic layout is still familiar, which is probably a good thing for existing users. Most of the changes are around how menus, buttons and different layers appear on the screen.
There Is a New Floating Navigation Bar
Another change can be seen at the bottom of some system apps. ColorOS 17 uses a floating navigation bar that sits slightly above the bottom edge rather than looking like a fixed part of the page.
You can swipe across it to move between different sections. There are small animations here as well. Touch a button and it can stretch or bounce slightly instead of giving you a completely static response.

Animations Are Getting More Attention
OPPO has been working on smoother animations for the last few ColorOS versions, and ColorOS 17 continues that. Search, notifications, menus and other parts of the interface now have more movement.
Take search as an example. The search box expands when you open it rather than simply appearing on the screen. These aren’t huge new features, but they are the sort of changes you may notice after using the phone for a few days.
ColorOS 17 Main Changes
| Feature | What’s New |
|---|---|
| Android Version | Android 17 |
| Design | Transparent and glass-like elements |
| Navigation | New floating bars |
| Lock Screen | More customization |
| Control Center | Redesigned interface |
| Animations | New effects and transitions |
| System Apps | Updated design |
| Haptics | Improved feedback |
Lock Screen Gets More Customization
People who regularly change their wallpaper or lock-screen style are getting some new options too. ColorOS 17 adds more clock styles, wallpapers and effects, so there is more room to change how the phone looks.

Some of these effects react when you interact with the screen. OPPO has carried parts of the same design over to the Home Screen as well, instead of keeping all the changes limited to the lock screen.
System Apps Look Different Too
You must know that the new design isn’t limited to the Home Screen and Control Center. OPPO has also changed the look of apps such as Phone, Notes, Documents and File Manager.
You will see more rounded elements and transparent backgrounds inside these apps. Brightness and volume controls have also received a new look. Overall, OPPO seems to be trying to keep the same design across more parts of ColorOS.
What About Eligible OPPO Phones?
This is one part where it will be worth waiting. ColorOS 17 has already gone through closed beta testing on selected devices, but OPPO hasn’t announced a complete global rollout list for every phone yet.
You may already find long lists of “eligible ColorOS 17 phones” online, but not all of them are official. Once OPPO shares its stable rollout plan, we should have a much clearer idea of which older Find, Reno and other models will get the update.
So, What’s Actually New in ColorOS 17?
ColorOS 17 isn’t about one huge feature. You may notice that most of the changes are spread across the software. The Control Center looks different, navigation bars now float in some apps, animations have changed and the lock screen gets more customization.
For someone already using ColorOS, it shouldn’t feel completely unfamiliar. Think of it more as a fresh look for OPPO’s software along with Android 17 underneath. The bigger question now is when the stable update will start reaching existing OPPO phones.
