If you use a Google Pixel phone, there is a new update worth checking for. Google has started rolling out the Android 17 September update, bringing the latest security patch along with a long list of bug fixes.

This isn’t just a small security update. Google has fixed problems related to Bluetooth, cameras, display, system performance, mobile networks and the user interface. Android 17 QPR1 also brings some visual and usability changes that have been in testing for the past few months.

Android 17 September Update Is Rolling Out Now

The update started rolling out on September 15 and is reaching supported Pixel devices in phases. This means you may not see it immediately even if someone with the same Pixel model has already received it.

Most supported devices are getting the global build CP3A.260905.009 along with the September 2026 security patch.

You can manually check by going to:

Settings > System > System update > Check for update

Which Pixel Phones Are Getting It?

The update covers a large number of Pixel devices, starting from the Pixel 6 series and going all the way up to Google’s latest phones.

Supported models include the Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a; Pixel 7 series; Pixel Fold and Tablet; Pixel 8 series; Pixel 9 series; Pixel 10 series; and Pixel 11 lineup.

So if you are still using an older Pixel 6 or Pixel 7, you aren’t missing out on the September update.

Around 20 Pixel Bugs Have Been Fixed

The main reason to install this update is the number of fixes included with it. Google has addressed around 20 Pixel-specific issues across different parts of the phone.

Some users should notice fixes related to Bluetooth connectivity and audio. Google has also worked on camera issues, display and graphics problems, system stability, mobile network behaviour and parts of the user interface.

Not every fix applies to every Pixel model, so you may not notice all of these changes after installing the update.

Android 17 QPR1 Also Changes the Interface

There are some visible changes too. Android 17 QPR1 adds more blur and transparency effects across the interface, including areas such as the volume panel and power menu.

Quick Settings gets new animations and an updated edit button. Google has also changed the media player when multiple apps are active, making it easier to move between different media sessions.

The home screen gets smaller changes as well, including updated long-press menus and a refreshed wallpaper switcher.

September Security Patch Is Included

Security is another important part of the update. The September Android security patches address a large number of vulnerabilities, while Google has included additional fixes specifically for Pixel devices.

You don’t need to install these separately. They arrive as part of the September Pixel software update.

Don’t Confuse It With Android 17 QPR2 Beta

Google has already moved on to testing Android 17 QPR2, but that’s a separate beta update.

The September release discussed here is the stable Android 17 QPR1 update meant for regular Pixel users. Unless you intentionally joined Google’s beta programme, you don’t need to install QPR2 Beta just to get the September fixes.

Should You Install the September Pixel Update?

Yes, especially if you have been facing Bluetooth, camera, display or general system issues on your Pixel. Even if your phone has been working normally, the September security fixes make the update worth installing.

Just don’t worry if it hasn’t appeared on your phone yet. Google is rolling out the update in phases, so availability can depend on your Pixel model and carrier. Check Settings > System > System update over the next few days if you haven’t received the notification yet.
